      Great service but boots defective

Posted by Ricfish on Apr 7th 2018

This is not Construction Gear's fault. The service was excellent (Cheyenne in Customer Service) and the exchange process was smooth. Fast delivery and shipping label provided so no extra cost. The Carolina boots I purchased, however, had some issues. The first pair 10.5 EE was too big (Wide is usually E, Double Wide EE, Triple wide EEE but not so this time, Wide was EE, Double Wide was EEE & no E available) and they had a nick on the toe of one boot (not a big deal though, they get scuffed at work anyhow). The leather was advertised as "oil tanned" but it wasn't. Was some sort of processed leather, felt like plastic but the sale price was right so figured I'd try to get a better size and see. Got the 10.5 M quickly and the fit was better. Problems with that pair too though: Some leather was better, true oil tanned but backstay and vamp on left boot was different, like the previous pair. Right boot was lasted a little crooked and the pull loop about 3/8" longer than the one on the left boot and because it was long and the softer, thicker oil tanned leather, not the thinner hard plastic-like feel of the other backstay/loop, it flopped down rather than staying up in place. The top line of stitching on that backstay ran off it and onto the shaft of the boot as well, which was sloppy and could eventually come loose. These were the USA-made 922 loggers so I was expecting better quality. The China-made Carolina loggers I have are much more carefully constructed, believe it or not. Returning the second pair too, unfortunately and I think I'll pass on these. Disappointed in Carolina but Construction Gear was great so far, as long as they email a shipping label for the second defective pair and refund my full purchase price. I'd definitely shop here again as this isn't their fault.
